Conservatives launch Youth Jobs Scheme

Cllr Sam Croft

Originally proposed in February this year, the Conservative policy of introducing a youth job scheme has been been launched that will see 19 to 25 year old school leavers in Nuneaton and Bedworth get the support and experience they need to enter the world of work.

Candidates will be able to take part in paid work placements that will give them the critical skills they need to be part of the modern workforce. This will also give them the opportunity to enhance their CV's. Support will be provided for interview preparation and the techniques needed to write a good CV.

Businesses also get a good bargain with employees who have a genuine interest in their field, and several have already signed up to the scheme.

Cllr Sam Croft, Portfolio Holder for Finance and Corporate and the brainchild of the new project, commented:

I'm delighted at the progress we've made so far, and this scheme is particularly important to me. Meaningful jobs aren't just about earning a living and getting paid, they're important to people’s sense of purpose, belonging and self-respect because a good job gives people the chance to develop their own talents, learn new skills and most importantly, gives them independence.

Whether our applicants find a permanent job offer, or simply stay on placement for a few weeks, if we can help some of our young people gain experience, build their CVs, learn new skills, earn some of their own income, and begin to realise what they want from their lives, this whole exercise will have been worthwhile.
