Cllr Kris Wilson

At the local elections in May 2021, local Conservatives were elected to deliver regeneration in Nuneaton town centre after years of calling for change.

With funding from the Conservative Government as part of the Town Investment Fund, the Bridge to Living project is moving forward towards the next steps with the purchasing of properties to ensure the redevelopment.

The Bridge to Living Scheme will breathe new life into the town centre by opening up Bridge Street and Church Street and provide new mixed usage buildings that include new workspaces, shop units, residential accommodation and a new connection to the River Anker.

Arrangements are in place to contact and work with existing business to ensure that we can try and relocate them within the town centre so that the area can be regenerated.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Kris Wilson, said:

“Our priority working with partners is to open up a completely new future for our town centre. Inevitably this means change as we bring new investment to re-shape the buildings here.

“This phase of work is important as it shows again how the town centre will change. A whole section of retail units will be demolished and, along with work on neighbouring land and buildings, will become part of the open space that will help make Nuneaton’s heart a more attractive area to visit.

“We are keen to work with existing traders wherever we can and retain their business here for visitors and local people. Most of all, we are working hard now so we can look forward with optimism to a bright new future for the centre of the town.”
